Building a New Foundation for Innovation


Dr. John C. Hurt

Dr. John C. Hurt is currently Program Director for Partnerships for Innovation Program at the National Science Foundation. He has been at NSF since 1986. He has extensive experience at NSF with programs that support innovation as well as partnerships between academe and industry and local/state government. He has served at NSF as program director in the Directorate for Mathematics and Physical Sciences, Directorate for Engineering, and Directorate for Education and Human Resources. He has been involved with the following programs at NSF: Engineering Research Centers, Science and Technology Centers, Materials Research Science and Engineering Centers, Industry/University Cooperative Research Centers, Small Business Innovative Research, Minority Research Centers of Excellence, Centers for Research Excellence in Science and Technology, and Ceramics and Electronic Materials. Prior to coming to NSF, Dr. Hurt was Associate Division Director for the Materials Science and Engineering Division at the Army Research Office and member of the graduate faculty in the Department of Materials Engineering Department at North Carolina State University. His area of technical expertise is electronic, magnetic, and optic materials science and engineering. He has the PhD degree from Rutgers University, 1967.
