Staff: Michael Wermuth

MICHAEL WERMUTH (J.D., University of Alabama School of Law) is a senior policy analyst at RAND and the Director of the Homeland Security Program. His areas of expertise include homeland security, emergency response, government organizations and coordination issues, and domestic terrorism. He served as the project director of the congressionally mandated Advisory Panel to Assess Domestic Response Capabilities for Terrorism Involving Weapons of Mass Destruction (also known as The Gilmore Commission). He has also served as the Chairman and Chief Executive Office of the W Mark Corporation; Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, specifically Drug Enforcement Policy; and Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Legislative Affairs. Mr. Wermuth is also a retired colonel of the U.S. Army Reserve and Life Member of Reserve Officers Association of the United States. He is a member of a number of other organizations, including the Alabama State Bar, Bar Association of the District of Columbia, Who's Who in America, and Who's Who in American Politics.
