RAND Fat File For HRS 2000 (Wave 5) *** VERSION C *** ====================================================== *** CHANGES IN VERSION C *** Version C of the fat file for the final 2000 (V1) data drops one case that was determined to be a room-mate rather than a partner. This case is identified in a January 2005 Data Alert. The dropped case was 211430.021. The marital status and spouse variables (GPnnnn) were adjusted for 211430.020 who was partnered and is now separated. On the income file, spouse income is zeroed out. Also based on November 2005 Data Alert, 75573.041 is changed to 75573.010 as is S5HHIDPN for 75573.040. Besides the adjustment for the dropped case, this version of the income imputation file includes additional variables for imputed monthly income amounts and the numbers of months received, and for up to three lump sums, not restricted to those received in the last calendar year. The monthly income amounts are now included for Social Security disability (R5MSDI/S5MSDI) and retirement (R5MSS/S5MSS), veterans benefits (R5MVET/S5MVET), pensions (R5MPEN1-R5MPEN3 and S5MPEN1-S5MPEN3), annuities (R5MANN1-R5MANN3 and S5MANN1-S5MANN3), SSI (H5MSSI), and food stamps (H5MFOOD). There are corresponding variables giving the number of months received for each of these types of income as well, e.g., R5NSDI/S5NSDI, R5NSS/S5NSS, etc. The lump sum variables are IH5LUMP1-IH5LUMP3 for the imputed lump sum amounts, H5OLUMP1-H5OLUMP3 for whether received lump sums, and H5FLUMP1- H5FLUMP3 for the imputation flags. The type of lump sum received can be found in G5862, G5869, and G5876. ******************************************************** There is no documentation for the RAND HRS 2000 Fat Fat File at this time but it includes variables similar to those derived for 1998. see the randff_h98f1.pdf file for a description of the 1998 files. The data files, provided in three formats, have been encrypted. It is important to copy these files to hard drive before unencrypting. When the corresponding *.zip file is double-clicked, select extract, select the folder to store the files, and provide the proper pass-phrase. A subfolder will be created and the data files will be unzipped to that folder (Target subfolder). Please use WinZip V10 or higher to unzip the file. You can download WinZip from www.winzip.com.
