Tom LaTourrette is a Physical Scientist at RAND specializing in technology and research needs related to emergency response, homeland security, and energy resources. Emergency response research addresses safety & health initiatives for emergency responders and emergency response and management for large disasters; homeland security research examines federal terrorism insurance policy, probabilistic terrorism risk modeling, security technology and operations, and individual preparedness and response for terrorism; energy and natural resource research includes prospects and policy issues for oil shale development, incorporating economic and environmental considerations into natural gas and oil resource assessments, and mining technology, economics, and policy. Other research interests include natural hazards, solar system exploration, and science and technology research priorities. Geochemistry research focused on the origin of volcanic lavas and the formation of the solar system.
