RAND Global Affiliates Meeting, June 10, 2008Global Affiliates Gather at Home of Ann Kerr - Jun. 10, 2008

On the 10th of June, the Global Affiliates gathered at the home of Ann Kerr in the Pacific Palisades. Following a convivial early evening reception in Ann's backyard -- which offered a dramatic vista of the Palisades, Santa Monica, and the ocean -- the group settled into the living room.

Ann has long been associated with RAND, most actively as a member of the Center for Middle East Public Policy board of advisors. Having just returned from one of her many trips to the Middle East, Ann provided some insightful perspective about the current situation in Lebanon. RAND researcher Dalia Dassa Kaye then spoke about Iran, the complexity of the issues and some of the policy options that will face a new administration in Washington. The floor was opened for questions and a lively discussion ensued.

The RAND Global Affiliates was launched with an event at the home of the group’s founding co-chairs, Jane & Gale Bensussen. Their backyard and home in Santa Monica provided a perfect setting for an evening of socializing, followed by a program featuring Bill Overholt, director of RAND’s Center for Asia Pacific Policy. Bill had recently published a book entitled Asia, America, and the Transformation of Geopolitics. He used themes in his book as a springboard for commentary on the rise of China and India, and the ever-increasing influence of Asia on geopolitical issues.

RAND Global Affiliates Breakfast RoundtableDavid Aaron speaks at RAND Global Affiliates Breakfast Roundtable - Nov. 29, 2007

A breakfast roundtable was held at RAND’s headquarters, featuring David Aaron, director of RAND’s Center for Middle East Public Policy. David offered some perspective about urgent issues confronting the Middle East as well as the rest of the world, and then suggested some policy options that the US might consider. His remarks were followed by a lively discussion of the complexity of regional issues, the seemingly intractable nature of some of the region’s conflicts, and America’s role in the region. The conversation also included speculation about the next US presidency and what that administration’s policy priorities might or should be.
