CAHPS¹ and Quality of Care
CAHPS III
A five-year follow-up to refine and extend the contributions made during the previous CAHPS projects, specifically: (1) develop and test ways that organizations can use CAHPS data for quality improvement; (2) evaluate strategies for reporting CAHPS results to consumers, patients, and other audiences; (3) refine existing CAHPS instruments and develop targeted surveys; and (4) disseminate and promote use of CAHPS products.

An analysis of data from more than 300,000 beneficiaries who respond to the newly expanded Medicare CAHPS survey. Resulting reports will provide data to aid consumer choice, guide quality improvement activities, and inform research on health care experiences of older and disabled Americans. Reports will also assess experiences with Part D prescription drug plans.

Design and implementation of a method to coordinate the national administration of the hospital CAHPS survey by multiple independent vendors and hospitals so that the resulting data allow accurate comparisons of patient perspectives across hospitals.
