Urban Congregations’ Capacity for HIV Prevention and Care
An investigation of the reasons why religious congregations (churches, synagogues, and mosques) implement or do not implement HIV/AIDS prevention and care programs and the processes by which such activities are implemented.

A study to update and expand existing simulation models and alternatives for understanding the HIV epidemic in Central America and to review national strategic plans and coordinate with national AIDS programs to identify the mix of intervention scenarios that would maximize the impact of HIV prevention efforts.

A research consortium to strengthen the research infrastructure and capacity of Makerere University and its local community partners to enable the university’s investigators to conduct rigorous social and behavioral HIV research that will begin to address the challenges facing Uganda with regard to HIV prevention and ART scale–up.

Participation in the Center for HIV Identification, Prevention, and Treatment Services (CHIPTS), which promotes collaborative research and education on effective HIV detection, prevention, and treatment programs at the societal, community, provider, and individual levels. CHIPTS integrates investigators from four institutions in close association with local governments and community–based organizations: University of California, Los Angeles (central coordinator); Charles R. Drew University; Friends Research Institute; and the RAND Corporation (treatment services core).
