Center Focus

To establish a self-sustaining research and education center that promotes community-based participatory research (CBPR) as a means of translating basic research into practice to improve the health and healthcare of older adults in NYC.

Center Goals

The primary goal of the Interdisciplinary Geriatric Health Care Research Center will be to strengthen interdisciplinary geriatric research with a primary emphasis on building capacity in CBPR.

  1. Expanding pre-existing research partnerships between three institutions, Weill Cornell Medical Center (Medicine/Geriatrics), the Center for Home Care Policy and Research, the research arm of the Visiting Nurse Service of NY (Nursing and Public Health), and Cornell University-Ithaca (Social Gerontology) through research, mentoring, and educational activities; and
  2. Training new investigators in an interdisciplinary setting that connects cutting edge medicine/geriatrics, nursing, and social science research.
