RAND Coordinating Center: Career Development Institute
During both rounds of the initiative, RAND hosted and facilitated several Career Development Institutes (CDI) as part of its technical assistance to the Centers. The CDI was designed to build interdisciplinary training and mentoring capabilities and infrastructure across and within the centers. In collaboration with a planning committee comprised of investigators from each center, the RAND Coordinating Center developed an agenda that was designed to support the career development of junior investigators and build strong mentor-mentee relations in the area of interdisciplinary geriatric health care research. With its focus on developing the careers of junior investigators and building strong mentor-mentee relations in the area of interdisciplinary geriatric health care, the CDI provided opportunities for junior and senior investigators to connect with researchers at other institutions. It brought key people to the table and provided concrete exercises for the representatives from the funded centers and other outside experts who participated. For each CDI, invitations were extended to all senior and junior investigators affiliated with the five funded centers.
