Usage Agreement

Use Agreement for Public Use Data Files from the RAND Center for Population Health and Health Disparities (CPHHD)

Thank you for your interest in the CPHHD. You will need to complete two steps in order to access the Public Use Data Files from our server. To begin, you will need to complete a registration form. After we have received and reviewed the form, we will send you a user name and password that will enable you to access the data.

Please note that the Public Use Data and documentation are provided as a public service to the research community. However, despite our best efforts, the public use files and data documentation provided on this website may contain errors. As with other data sets, researchers should proceed with caution and conduct their own data quality evaluations whenever possible.

We ask you to register for two reasons. First, summary information on users of the CPHHD data helps us to demonstrate to agencies funding our center that the data are useful to a broad range of researchers. This information helps us to in our efforts seek ongoing funding for the center. Second, when possible we will make an effort to notify registered data users of a problem encountered or new data available.

To obtain access to the Public Use Data, the User agrees to the following conditions:

  • You will use the CPHHD Public Use Data Files.
  • You will not transfer the CPHHD Public Use Data or derived files to anyone else other than staff members and students working directly under your supervision.
  • You will ask your co-investigators to register separately for data use.
  • You agree to destroy any downloaded Public Use Data files and any derived data files if requested to do so by RAND.
  • You agree to send us (escarce@rand.org) the citations for any papers, articles, books, working papers, presentations at professional meetings or conferences, or other publications that use the CPHHD data. We also ask that you send us copies of the publications. Electronic copies are preferred, though hard copies are accepted (contact us at escarce@rand.org for our mailing address)
  • You will acknowledge the RAND CPHHD as the source of data for analysis on all reports and publications that use these data. The acknowledgement should substantially follow the wording below:
"This research used data from the RAND Center for Population Health and Health Disparities, which is funded by grant 1-P50-ES012383 from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. For further information on the CPHHD, go to http://www.rand.org/health/centers/pophealth/index.html."
  • Report any errors in the data and documentation files to the CPHHD at escarce@rand.org.
  • You agree to ensure that anyone working with the data you downloaded follows these rules in their use of the data.
